Cancer Center in Gonzales Among Louisiana's Best of 2009 Winners

(Gonzales, LA) -- At an awards luncheon held at Boudreaux's in Baton Rouge on Thursday, December 3, 2009, South Central Construction magazine honored the winners of its Best of 2009 awards program. Winning a 'Best in Category Award for Best Small Project' was Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. The annual competition, sponsored by McGraw-Hill South Central Construction magazine, recognizes construction and design excellence from across Louisiana.

"We are delighted that this construction project is award-winning, but we are even more delighted to partner with Mary Bird Perkins on this project that makes it possible to provide the community with a broader range of critical services for cancer patients in the greater Ascension area," said Dee LeJeune, president and CEO of St. Elizabeth Hospital.

An independent jury of industry experts judged numerous nominated projects in mid-September. The award-winners are featured in the December issue of South Central Construction. The winners will be entered into the National Best of 2009 competition and judged against winners from other regions. Those winners will be highlighted in an upcoming issue of Engineering News-Record.

"We are honored to have had the opportunity to partner on this project with St. Elizabeth Hospital- building this facility together to help further meet the vital cancer needs of the community," said Todd Stevens, president and CEO, Mary Bird Perkins.

The jury awarded projects based on entry criteria including safety, innovation, contribution to the community or industry, construction quality and craftsmanship, and function and aesthetic quality of design. Entries were sorted by project type. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Elizabeth Hospital was designed by Signal Creek Architects and built by MAPP Construction, LLC.
